Are you in control of your life?

Is a question that I obsess with every now and then. However, when I grip too tight; it falls and spirals out of my control. It humbles me. There are more things we have control over, when it comes to our own lives, then we don't. Most of us have a say what we eat, what we digitally consume, how we spend our time, who we spend our time with, and what we focus our attention on.

Those few things alone can completely shift your reality. If you choose to say no to someone who emotionally dumps on you weekly, you've just set a boundary and moved a step further in your self-respect. If you choose to cut sugar out of your diet you might notice you have more energy, and you might feel really good about your decision to do something healthy for your body.

Deciding to unfollow people on social media who are hateful or negative can be an act of self-care. Picking up a book to learn about a topic that feels important to you can end up shifting the way you see yourself and the world around you.

On the flip side, you can also make the choice to live in default. You make the choice not to consciously choose the things you do have control over. People who live in this way often find themselves stuck and frustrated. It's a way I have lived before, too.

Each time I have reclaimed the power to make a choice for my life that supported me my life took on new shape.

Over time these choices transformed the way I looked at life. My beliefs changed. The way I felt in my skin changed, and the power I actually had over my life became more clear.

Most of us are unbelievably stressed out, and we've become accustomed to it. We believe we can handle large amounts of stress, but it's really just become the status quo until we can't bear it any longer and develop severe anxiety, crippling depression, or physical illness.

We can't make conscious choices in our lives if we're not willing to slow down. Otherwise, we're always responding to life instead of creating it.

For the past few years, I have been consciously creating my life, and it has been a slow moving journey until I began a Sustainable Wellness practice of meditation, energy work, yoga, and healing four years ago. Since then my life has continued to get better in ways that sometimes feel hard to believe.
